In recent years the restaurant building has been enlarged to cater for the growing number of tourists, and the cable cars have been replaced or refurbished, but the location is still a wonderful place to visit, whether you're a fan of 007 or not.

I have just uploaded some photos from this location to my website at
Piz Gloria Pictures

The photographs were taken on various trips to Switzerland, between 1985 and 1991, when the cable car and restaurant buildings were still in their original state. The journey to Piz Gloria is almost as spectacular as the views from the summit of the Schilthorn. Arriving at the valley station Lauterbrünnen by narrow gauge train from Interlaken Ost, I immediately recognised it as the location where James Bond (George Lazenby) left the train on his own journey to Piz Gloria in 'OHMSS'. Rather than take a sleigh ride to a helicopter as 007 did, we took the more normal route of funicular and mountain railway to the idyllic Alpine village of Mürren. After a short mile long stroll through this beautiful little town, we arrived at the cable car station of the 'Luftseilbahn Stechelberg Mürren Schilthorn' (LSMS). The red cable car was just descending into the station. After passing through the ticket gate we stepped into the cabin and awaited departure time. With a ringing of communication bells we were on our way, first to the middle station of Birg, and then lofted up to the breathtaking heights of the Schilthorn. An unforgettable journey to one of the most majestic viewpoints in the whole of the World.

Check out my Slide Show!

The first set is from 1985, taken during my first visit to the mountain top lair of Blofeld, the magnificent Piz Gloria in the Swiss Alps. These pictures show the location used in the 007 film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. Today, the revolving restaurant on top of the Schilthorn mountain has been enlarged and re-modelled, as have all of the cable cars.
Over the years, Bond fans in the UK and elsewhere have been fortunate to be able to see some of the props, vehicles, models and other items used in the Bond films. Roy was a veteran of the James Bond films, having worked on most of the 007 films since 1977's 'The Spy Who Loved Me', and was one of the Worlds most prolific stuntmen. His first film was 'A Bridge Too Far', and apart from his stuntwork he had also appeared as an actor, including one of the stock car drivers in the 1981 film 'The Long Good Friday'. His more recent films include 'Troy' and 'The DaVinci Code' to be released later this year.
I had met up with Roy on the set of the last Bond film, 'Die Another Day', on a muddy field in Aldershot, where he was about to become a Korean soldier taking part in the hovercraft chase sequence. Tell him to send Little Nellie. Repeat. Little Nellie. Suggest she be accompanied by her father. Most urgent.”
It is with these words that James Bond summons Little Nellie to help him track down SPECTRE in the 1967 film You Only Live Twice. She arrives with her on-screen father in the guise of “Q” portrayed by Desmond Llewelyn. In reality Little Nellie’s father is her creator Wing Commander Kenneth H Wallis who also doubled for Sean Connery and piloted his unique aircraft in the film. But his time ‘as’ 007 is just a small part of a highly interesting life and career.
Read the full interview, now online at http://www.djwilliamsphotography.com/articles/Ken_Wallis.htm

Paper work

Just uploaded the new issue of our FREE weekly advertiser, the 'Tri-County Shopper'. We are now at Issue 16, nearly four months of hard work building this little paper up, and the feedback so far has been very promising. Lots of the businesses that advertise with us are reporting increased sales, phone calls and visitors, so we are feeling pretty pleased with ourselves. It's a family affair, with myself, my wife and our sister-in-law Eileen, together with help from office staff and paper carriers to spread the word. The 'Shopper' is distributed throughout Deer Lodge, Anaconda, Philipsburg and other communities in Powell, Deer Lodge and Granite Counties here in southwestern Montana, hence the name of the paper! Originally from London, England, I moved over here to be with the woman I love, Valerie, who is now my wife. Why is this blog called bondpix? Because my main interests in life, since a very early age, are James Bond and photography. I set up a website with the name bondpix in the winter of 2000, after having been extremely fortunate enough to visit the set of the 007 film 'The World is not Enough', when they were filming the pre-credit sequence boat chase on the River Thames in London. I, naturally, took hundreds of photos and hours of video, and managed to sell some of the photos to the press (the' SUN' newspaper) and eventually released the video onto VHS tape, and now Special Edition DVD. Called 'A View...to a Boat Chase' this shows the six weeks the action unit took to film this exciting sequence.
You can see these pictures, and buy the DVD, from my website at www.bondpix.com This website also showcases a small part of my photo collection, spanning many years of picture taking all over the UK, Europe, and now Montana and other parts of the United States.
Hope you enjoy your visit, and I hope to update this blog with news on the new Bond film, 'Casino Royale' due to start filming next January. I'll also be telling you about my photoshoots and other travels around this most beautiful part of the World.
Best wishes
David
